By and For Teenagers, 1947

Published in the WPTF Signal, June 1947; “680 on your dial”

Station WPTF has inaugurated a new public series, present by teenagers- and for teen-agers, entitled “Youth Takes a Stand.”

The series is designed to attack the problems of youth in appositive manner. During the first group of broadcasts, subtitled “Youth Looks at Itself,” local boys and girls from high schools, churches, Boy Scouts, 4-H Clubs, and other groups discuss in forum fashion Youth’s position in the home, church, school, community, and in business. The Rev. Ray Holder, rector of Raleigh’s Christ Episcopal Church, acts at moderator of the discussions.

So far in the series, the teen-agers have conducted lively and instructive discussions, taking both pro’s and con’s of each issue. The Reverend Holder and WPTF will welcome listeners’ criticisms, suggestions, and interests in this youth program.

The new series has been endorsed by J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI, by Judge Justin Miller, president of the National Association of Broadcasters, and Dr. Clyde A. Erwin, State Superintendent of Public Instruction.
