Raleigh Hotel Offers Radio Service in Every Room, 1936

The following news article was published in the The Raleigh News and Observer, March 23, 1936

Radio service in every room of the Hotel Sir Walter Raleigh will be inaugurated today. The system was being tested yesterday. It operated satisfactorily.

Installed by the Radio Corporation of America, Camden, N.J., the system provides a loudspeaker in each room, with a choice of two programs. One circuit will be tuned to WPTF in Raleigh, on the NBC system, and the other to WBT in Charlotte, on the CBS system. Each speaker has a volume control nob.

The control room of the system, equipped with powerful receiving sets, is located in the basement of the hotel. The system will be operated from 11 o’clock in the morning until 11 o’clock at night.
