Eliminate Poverty to End Crime, 1939

Letter to the Editor in the February, 1939, The Southern Planter

You would be surprised at the sudden decrease in crime if poverty could be prevented. Poverty not only lowers the morale of individuals, but lowers the moral standard of society, and it also slows down its progress. It breaks down the family, causes disease, prevents many from securing an education, turns thousands into criminals, and is a hindrance to the progress of the whole United States.
