Hendersonville Has Temporary Fix for Water Shortage, 1914

“Temporary Emergency Line Gives City Plenty Water” from the June 4, 1914, issue of the Western Carolina Democrat and French Broad Hustler, Hendersonville, N.C.

1 ½ Miles of Pipe Line From Jump-Off Mountain to Present Intake Gives City 108,000 Gallons More Water
City Manager George W. Justice announces that a temporary emergency water line has been turned into the city reservoir that will give an additional supply of 108,000 gallons of water per day. This 6-inch pipe was ordered by the board of commissioners to be placed from the top of Jump Off Mountain to the head of the present intake, a distance of about a mile and an half. The new line connects with the present pipe line about 600 feet above the reservoir.
With an additional 75 gallons of water per minute it is thought there will be no scarcity of water for the city this summer. The new line is only temporary.
