Halifax County Results in First Statewide Primary, 1916

“Primary Brings Out Light Vote,” from the June 9, 1916 issue of the Roanoke Rapids Herald.

First Legalized Statewide Primary Draws About One-Third of the Voters in this Community…Local and County Returns
Only 215 voters out of a possible 600 registered their preferences for the different candidates here in the first legalized primary held on last Saturday. The vote here was a decided reflection of the vote over the State at large, all of the present officers receiving heavy majorities.
