To Put the Deaths Due to Flu and War in Perspective, October, 1918

From The Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., Oct. 25, 1918. There is no number of people who have died from the flu because it wasn’t a reportable disease. The board of health had written to doctors to come up with a list of everyone who had died of flu. The Board would try to come with an estimate of flu deaths at the end of the epidemic.

Deaths in North Carolina

Between January 1st and August 1, 1918, according to statistics from the state health bulletin:

--6,077 children under the age of two years died in North Carolina

--2,071 people died in this state from tuberculosis

--172 died from typhoid

--94 died in France
