From the Hickory Daily Record, Dec. 11, 1918

The Hickory canteen acknowledges the following contributions:

Mrs. Pearl Sherrill, literature
Mrs. W.B. Menzies, cakes and flowers

Mrs. J.E. Barb, cream
Mrs. D.M. McComb, milk

Mrs. Grace Patrick, cookies
Miss Dora Witherspoon, roses

Miss Ada Schenck, milk

Mrs. John Lentz, cookies
Mrs. S.L. Whitener, bread and celery

Mrs. Harry Whitener, milk and cookies
Mrs. Wm. Salem, pears

Mrs. W.B. Ramsay, coffee
Mrs. J.M. Allred, loaf sugar

Mrs. Riddle, brown bread and roses
Mrs. C.E. Cline, jam

Miss Effie Morrison, joke book
Mrs. H.S. Smith, literature, jelly, jam, cookies

Mrs. Gwaltney, marmalade
Mrs. E.L. Grady, marmalade

Mr. R. Ramson, 50 cents
Mrs. J.G. Bridges of Hildebran, 50 cents

Mrs. J.M. Stephens, $1
Mrs. J.D. Elliott, $2

Mrs. Edgar Yoder, 20 cents
Mrs. Ingram, 50 cents

Mrs. Murphy baked a beautiful angel cake for the boys’ Thanksgiving and Mrs. E.B. Menzies and Miss Janie made the cookies and roles, served with the turkey on that day.

In spite of the generous donations the increasingly large numbers of soldiers passing through Hickory make it hard to keep up the supply of home-made cakes, and to those ladies who wish to contribute it is safe to say that these boys will enjoy nothing more than a chance to sample your Christmas baking.
