Capt. Fry Says Corp. Peeler Was Always Brave, 1919

From The Hickory Daily Record, Jan. 6, 1919

Corp. Peeler Killed in Hindenburg Line

Corporal Lawrence T. Peeler, son of Rev. and Mrs. J.A. Peeler, “was a soldier in every respect, always brave, ready and willing to do what his duty was in every respect,” wrote Capt. Philip T. Fry, commander of the 119th infantry, of which the Hickory boy was a member.

Corporal Peeler was killed on September 29, as has been stated in former issues of the Record, in the battle for the Hindenburg line, which was broken by the American troops. He was buried in the United States army graveyard just beyond where the battle started, the captain wrote.

Captain Fry forwarded this information in reply to a letter from the mother of the young soldier, who sought detailed. He offered any further details he was able to give and expressed his deep sympathy for the loss of the brave soldier.
