Officers Who Were Wounded “Over There”

When the warriors for Justice rushed against the steel-built war machine of Germany, these are the men who blew the whistles and led the charge of the daring sons of freedom. These officers were halted in the midst of the drive but not until they had delivered some effective work for Democracy’s cause.

The names of the men, standing from left to right, are: Lieutenant Robert Riley, Lieutenant James Swain , of Company D, 115th Infantry; Captain Ives, surgeon in charge of the Officers ward of the U.S. Army Base Hospital, Camp Green; Lieutenant L.D. Sutherland of 405 South Tryon street, Charlotte; Lieutenant William H. Dunn, Company K, 119th Infantry; Lieutenant Jack Newman, Company D, 105th Engineers; and Seated is Lieutenant Z.B. Thornburg of Concord, Company D, 118th Infantry.
