Lt. Stevenson Injured When Tank Tractor Ran Over His Foot and Leg, 1919

From The Hickory Daily Record, Feb. 15, 1919

Lt. Stevenson Injured by Tank, Not Wounded

A letter to the Record from Lieut. Chas. S. Stevenson corrected the report published in the paper that he had been wounded in France, the Hickory officer stating that he was injured when a tank tractor ran over his right foot and leg. He is getting along all right.

Lieutenant Stevenson referred to the record of the 30th division, gave details of his journeys through France and said he was mighty glad to have gone over. The thing that the boys are thinking of now, he said, is “when will we get back?” He has been to Versailles and looked over the palace where the peace conference is being held at present in a small town in southern France.

Lieutenant Stevenson says he remembers the good dinner Hickory and Catawba folks gave the Company when it left here and it is a pleasant one. He sends good wishes to the people of Hickory, but does not indicate when he will return home.
