$25,000 Raised for Memorial Building in Wilson, March 19, 1919

From The Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., March 19, 1919

$25,000 Raised for Building. . . This Amount to Commemorate the Memory of the Valiant Deeds of Our Brave Soldiers

Members of the committee out working to raise money for the Memorial Building secured $25,000 yesterday and the prospects to secure a good sum are bright.

The county districts are not contributing largely to the cause probably because they do not understand that the rest room and other features of the building are for their convenience when they come to town.

Of course the building is primarily to honor the soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice and some express themselves as saying that they would be willing to give a large amount for this purpose, whole on the other hand if they will think a moment they will understand that a building of this kind will honor the boys more than a monument for it will be impossible to place even the names of the boys from Wilson county who participated in the war on a monument, while in a memorial building, there will be ample room for panels commemorating their deeds and also rooms to store relics from the boys, and in this way we can create a Hall of History.

The ladies are out today working hard to increase the sum total of the contributions to this worthy cause.
