Converting Court House Square Into Public Park, Aug. 8, 1919

From The Independent, Elizabeth City, N.C., Aug. 8, 1919.

Busy in Right Direction

At the regular monthly meeting of the Board of County Commissioners Monday, Noah Burfoot and J.E. Corbet were appointed as a committee to act in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Aldermen to determine upon the advisability and practicability of converting the Court House square into a public park, with walks, benches and plenty of electric lights. Arrangements have already been made to install a public drinking fountain on the square, and things are looking good for the conversion of the hitherto unused square into a real open air civic center for the benefit of Elizabeth City and her visitors.
