Hickory Stores Will Be Closed Tomorrow So Everyone Can Attend Soldiers' Reunion in Newton, Aug. 13, 1919

From The Hickory Daily Record, Wednesday, Aug. 13, 1919

Attend Reunion Tomorrow at Newton

Hickory retail merchants will close shop tomorrow at noon and all owners and employes will attend the soldiers’ reunion and celebration at Newton. A canvas of the merchants this morning by President Bisanar disclosed such wide spread interest in the reunion that it was decided to close.

Practically all of the Hickory boys will be at the reunion tomorrow and hundreds of other citizens will be on hand. The weather man today indicated showers for today and Thursday, but there were many chances that the big reunion could be pulled off under the most favorable circumstances.

The program calls for a good time, from the standpoint of the soldiers. There will be no parade, very little speaking, but plenty of music, a ball game and other attractions, including two airplanes. The Newton committee has gone to much trouble and expense to make the day a notable one. The dinner to soldiers of three wars, their wives and children will be memorable.

Reunion talk has been rife in Hickory all the week and tomorrow everybody will be looking Newtonward. Those who miss the reunion will regret it.
