If Washington, D.C., Doesn't Take Profiteers to Task, Local Buyers Should Protest, Aug. 21, 1919

From the editorial page of The Gleaner, Graham, N.C., Aug. 21, 1919, J.D. Kernodle, Editor

The profiteer may think he can keep on and not be bothered; that the government will in some way pass him by. But he should remember that somebody than the official at Washington is interested in his conduct—the one right at his door from whom he is taking unearned and excessive profits. This one is not going to continue to stand quietly and allow himself and family to be robbed, as it were, without protest.
