Militia To Be Withdrawn From Albemarle Today, Sept. 17, 1919

From The Daily Times, Wilson, N.C., Sept. 17, 1919

Will Remove Troops From Albemarle Today

Raleigh, Sept. 17—Unless there are further developments in Albemarle to justify the presence of troops there, the three companies of North Carolina Reserve Militia will entrain for their home stations as soon as after noon today as practicable, according to orders issued by Adjutant General Royster after conference with Captain Dermot Shemwell, military commander, and the civil authorities yesterday afternoon.

The situation was so peaceable in Albemarle yesterday afternoon, according to advices here, that the mayor had taken a trip to the country. He returned and later was in communication with Adjutant General Royster, who out of an abundance of precaution, in view of the trial of the men now in jail scheduled for this morning, allowed the troops to remain until noon.
