Hickory Interested in Proposed League

Hickory baseball fans probably will be called upon to decide within a few days whether Hickory will e in the proposed baseball league next year. The cities slated for berths are Asheville, Gastonia, Statesville, Salisbury and Lexington, with Morganton, Hendersonville or Hickory as the sixth club. A meeting will be held at Salisbury Saturday afternoon to consider the question.

Hickory enthusiasts have no delusions as to what a baseball club means. It is a great thing for a town, affords plenty of excitement and the like, but it also requires a great deal of time, and somebody has to lose money. A season that ends with a shortage under $2,000 is successful in the average North Carolina town, including Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston-Salem and the rest.

The question is now before the fans, and if they want baseball, it is in sight. A meeting has been called for 7:30 tomorrow night at the Chamber of Commerce.
