Miss Anamerle Arant, Eastern District home economics agent, was the recipient of a high and distinct honor at the annual meeting of the North Carolina State Grange held recently at Asheville.
The Grange designated Miss Arant as its “Woman of the Year” for her contributions to the people of North Carolina through Extension’s home economics program.
“All of us are pleased to honor Miss Arant as the ‘Woman of the Year’, said Mrs. Harry B. Caldwell, master of the Grange. “Her contribution to a better rural North Carolina has been outstanding.”
Continuing, Mrs. Caldwell said, “All of us feel that Miss Arant is a symbol of the fine work being done by home economics agents at all levels of the Extension Service. We hope that all will feel that it was the purpose of the State Grange to honor all of them.”
The Grange award is another in a growing list of honors that Miss Arant has received in recent years. In 1962, she was presented a citation in recognition for services to Home Demonstration Club women. In 1963, she was presented the U.S. Department of Agriculture Superior Service Award by Secretary Orville Freeman.
Miss Arant has been in Extension work since 1926, beginning in her native Alabama and coming to North Carolina in 1931 as home demonstration agent in Alamance County.
She became Northwestern District agent in 1935 and in 1961 was made Eastern District agent.
