The people of North Carolina should not lack for adequate hospital care if the program proposed by the Governor’s Commission on medical and hospital care is adopted by the state, Dr. Hubert Haywood told the Kiwanis Club Friday.
Proper facilities for medical care are lacking especially in rural areas where three-fourths of the State’s population lives and where the cash income averages as low as $600, he said.
The proposed program will not disrupt the “fine relationship between the doctor and the patient” since its purpose it so fulfill the requirements of a sound medical care program and not to destroy existing relationships, Dr. Haywood said.
He commended the commission’s recommendations in asking for enlarged facilities and the establishment of regional hospital for members of the Negro race.
Dr. Haywood was presented by George Ragsdale. The club decided to forego the annual “Ladies Night.” President Joe Correll presided.
