In Memoriam
Died at his home near Bamboo, this county, of Sept. 14,
1902, Mr. Harley Hampton.
He was born July 1, 1878; was married to Miss Estella Lay
July 28, 1901. His married life was short but happy. He professed faith in
Christ quite young and joined the Baptist Church at Mt. Vernon and was always
present at his church meetings unless providentially hindered. He lived a
consistent and faithful member until death. He leaves a wife and little son to
fight life’s battles alone. He was the most patient sufferer we have ever seen,
and talked of the sweet singing and music he heard during his illness. He also
dreamed of our blessed Savior and of sitting down near the great white throne
with Him, and saw the most beautiful people he had ever looked upon.
It can truly be said that a good man has gone from among us,
but our loss is his gain. After a life of hardship and trials he has gone where
the weary are at rest, and where partings are no more. He did not seem to suffer
while he was dying but passed away without even a struggle as sweetly as a
child going to sleep.
After a very appropriate burial service by the Rev. J. M.
Payne, his body was consigned to the tomb to rest until the resurrection Monday
when the dead shall be called forth and eveyr one be judged according to the
deeds done in the body. He is gone, forever gone; his early journey’s ore, and
ages may still roll on but we will hear his loving voice no more. But we sorrow
out as those who have no hope, for Jesus will soon come and wake the sleeping
ones, then we hope to meet dear Harley clad in immortality in that land that
knows no pain, sickness, nor sad partings.
