Although it’s not a major crop in North Carolina, farmers do
grow wheat here. Winter wheat is planted in September and October. In spring,
the wheat grows tall and green. By June it has turned golden and is ready to
harvest. I believe the unlabeled photos from the files of the former Department
of Agricultural Communications at N.C. State University are actually U.S.
Department of Agriculture shots taken to promote USDA publications, and I don’t
know if they were taken in North Carolina. But I think they are beautiful and
want to share them.
