Death Notices for Wiley Childers, John Baxter, 1919

Wiley C. Childers

Wiley C. Childers was born June 8, 1841 and departed this life July 28, 1919, aged 78 years, 1 month, and 20 days.

He connected himself with the Methodist Protestant Church 46 years ago and lived a constant member until his death. He leaves a wife, one brother, one sister, 8 children, 44 grand children, and 17 great grand children to mourn their loss. Four brothers, two sisters, and three children preceded him to the grave. He was always a regular attendant at church and Sunday school as long as he was able to go. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, a good neighbor and will be much missed in this community. He was a liberal contributor to church and benevolent purposes. His home was always open for ministers of the gospel.

His remains were interred at Bess’ Chapel, the funeral and burial services were conducted by ‘Rev. Tom Plyler. A very large concourse of relatives and friends attended the funeral. Peace to his ashes.

John Henry Logan Baxter

John Henry Logan Baxter was born May 27th, 1875, and departed this life Aug. 2nd, 1919, aged 40 years, 2 months and 5 days. He leaves a wife, five children, a father, mother, one brother and two sisters to mourn their loss.

Henry joined the M.P. church in early boyhood and lived a consistent member until death. He was a kind and affectionate husband and father, was loved by all who knew him, which was evidenced by the large congregation that assembled at Bess Chapel on Saturday evening at 4 o’clock to pay the last tribute of respect to his remains. He was only sick one week, was taken to the Lincolnton Hospital on Friday morning, was operated on for appendicitis and died Saturday morning about 3 o’clock. W.B. Surratt conducted the funeral service.
