--Bishop Cheshire spent last Saturday at Hillsboro with relatives.

--Miss Arlena Cates of Hillsboro is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Thomas Lloyd at Chapel Hill.

--We were glad to see our friend, Mr. Jesse Miller, in town Monday after being sick for several weeks with the grip.

--Mr. Thomas A. Corbin of Winston-Salem, proprietor of the Occoneeccee Hotel, was in Hillsboro Monday morning.

--Miss Elizabeth R. Hamilton, daughter of Major D.H. Hamilton, left here Monday afternoon to visit relatives in Washington City and Baltimore.

Mrs. M.L. Taylor and Mrs. Floyd Leonard left here Monday morning for Baltimore and New York City to purchase spring and summer millinery.

--Alamance Superior Court convened Tuesday morning, Judge James L. Webb presiding.

--Rev. H.S. Bradshaw of Hillsboro conducted the funeral service of Mrs. T.C. Joyner at Franklinton on Tuesday, February 25. Mrs. Joyner was a sister of Mrs. Geo. A. Durham of Hillsboro.

--Janet, aged 10 months, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alan Browning, died at their residence in Hillsboro on Monday the second day of March at 2 p.m. The funeral and burial services were held at Pleasant Green Church Tuesday afternoon. The Observer extends sincere sympathy to the bereaved parents.

--A correspondent writing to the Chapel Hill News in last week’s paper from Cole’s Store says: “Robert Davis, colored, had the misfortune to get four of his toes cut off, with the exception of the skin underneath, a few days ago. He and his son were cutting down a pine tree and the tree was so near cut off that then the boy made his lick the ax going through striking his father’s foot with the above results. While in great pain, Bob sat down with needle and thread and sewed his toes on.” The Observer knows this unfortunate colored man. He is a hard working, worthy man and a good citizen, and everybody who knows him will regret to learn of his accident.

--Ex Judge A.W. Graham of Oxford has been appointed receiver for the Eugenia and Clark Cotton Mills of Jonesboro. The mills are worth $125,000.

--During Mr. Allen J. Ruffin’s serious illness which followed a very dangerous attack of acute indigestion on Tuesday morning of last week, he has been attended by Dr. McNider of Chapel Hill, Dr. Sterling Ruffin of Washington, D.C., and Drs. Mebane and Jones of Hillsboro. Besides his wife and her mother, Mrs. S.S. Nash of Tarboro, the following relatives have been at his bedside: Mrs. Charles Pettigrew and Mrs. John Harrison of Atlanta, Ga.; sisters of Mr. Ruffin, and his brothers, Mr. Sterling Ruffin of Petersburg, Va., and Mr. J.R. Ruffin of Roanoke. Va.

--Mrs. Henry Roberts died at the home of the late Thomas C. Roberts in Little River Township on Wednesday, February 26, after a short illness with pneumonia. Mrs. Roberts was the daughter of Mr. Joe McKee and had been married about six week. The funeral and burial was at Little River Church Thursday afternoon, Rev. M.C. Arrowood conducting the services.
