Jas. F. Lentz

After a brave struggle with pneumonia, following an attack of Spanish influenza, Jas. F. Lentz passed away January 4th at 3 o’clock at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Lentz of Ellerbe.

That the dreaded epidemic has taken a well-loved character and citizen in the death of Mr. Lentz is the grieved expression heard on every one’s lips. Mr. Lentz was a man who never had a great deal to say when expressing himself was regarded as an authority on almost any subject. He read lots and for this reason was well posted.

Mr. Lentz was a man of exceptional business ability; starting a few years ago with practically no capital at all he went into the lumber business, and his ability to handle same was such that at the beginning of 1919 he had built up a very prosperous and successful business. At the time of his death he was worth about $10,000 which had been solely made by himself.

The town and entire community mourn with the family the loss of this beloved citizen.

A short funeral service was held at the town Cemetery after which interment followed. His burial was largely attended in spite of the very severe weather. The floral tribute was a token of the love of his many friends and was of unusual beauty.

Surviving Mr. Lentz are his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.W. Lentz, Mr. John F. Lentz, a brother, of Ellerbe, and a sister, Mrs. Olive of Cameron.
