Officers Who Were Wounded “Over There”

When the warriors for Justice rushed against the steel-built war machine of Germany, these are the men who blew the whistles and led the charge of the daring sons of freedom. These officers were halted in the midst of the drive but not until they had delivered some effective work for Democracy’s cause.

The names of the men, standing from left to right, are: Lieutenant Robert Riley, Lieutenant James Swain , of Company D, 115^th Infantry; Captain Ives, surgeon in charge of the Officers ward of the U.S. Army Base Hospital, Camp Green; Lieutenant L.D. Sutherland of 405 South Tryon street, Charlotte; Lieutenant William H. Dunn, Company K, 119^th Infantry; Lieutenant Jack Newman, Company D, 105^th Engineers; and Seated is Lieutenant Z.B. Thornburg of Concord, Company D, 118^th Infantry.
