Airplane Makes Forced Landing in Cotton Patch East of Wilson, July 14, 1919

From The Wilson Daily Times, July 14, 1919

Forced to Land

One of the three Navy planes that were heading for the landing field at the Country Club Saturday afternoon was forced to land about 4 ½ miles East of this city on account of the exhaustion of the gasoline supply.

The plane came down in a cotton patch and was soon surrounded by a throng of spectators.
As soon as a supply of gasoline was obtained, the machine was able to resume the flight.
