A Large Watermelon
Mr. W.T. Hollowman of Route 4 has presented the editor of this
paper with one of his prize watermelons, which weighed 42 pounds. The melon “was”
a beauty, being unusually symmetrical in shape, and chock full of the most luscious
of all fruits.
It has annually been the custom of the Herald to offer a
free subscription to the largest watermelon raised in this section. However,
inadvertently, through a lapse of memory, this announcement was overlooked.
However that may be, it is useless to make the announcement as Mr. Holloman
invariably takes the prize with his choice melons.
Although Mr. Holloman has not requested us to do so, his
subscription shall be marked up another year in return for being the champion
melon grower of Ahoskie and vicinity.
