Prospers With Tobacco
Greenville, Oct. 15—As an illustration of the value of
tobacco grown on Pitt county land the following vouched-for story, names being
given, is being told:
A farmer had a young boy working for him for wages and
board, the wages being in keeping with the present high wage scale. The boy,
who is not so bright and intelligent as many boys, became a bit dissatisfied
with the wages and decided he would quit just before time to begin the year’s
crop.
The farmer told him that in addition to the wages then being
paid he would give him an acre of tobacco and allow him enough time to tend the
one acre. The boy accepted the offer. The tobacco from the acre has been sold
and the boy got $893 for it.
