South Carolinians in
a Parlor Gun Battle
Columbia, S.C., Feb. 24—Allie Cone, aged 20, and Orbic Cone,
aged 17, were instantly killed and John Brant, 22, slightly wounded in a gun
battle in the parlor of the home of E.P. Phillips, a prosperous farmer living
near Allendale, about 8 o’clock Sunday, the news reaching Columbia last
evening.
John Brant and his brother, Earl Brant, 17, are under
arrest, charged with the double killing. The slain Cone lads were first
cousins. The shooting occurred in the presence of two of Mr. Phillips’
daughters, upon whom the men involved were calling, according to the police
authorities. Details reaching here as to the cause of the fight are
conflicting.
