Armistice Celebrated in Hickory, Nov. 11, 1920

In honor of the signing of the armistice two years ago tomorrow, Hickory will observe the day Thursday with the closing of all stores and the cessation of other business as is possible within the town. No formal program has been arranged, but the day will be observed nonetheless. Most of the Hickory soldiers who were in France when the armistice was signed are back at home and some of them are now active in assisting the Red Cross fourth roll call, which gets under way tomorrow. Most people will remember the joy that followed the announcement that the war had ended, and the call for a holiday was so insistent that practically all states observe the anniversary as such.
