Frank Elliott Dies of Pneumonia, Jan. 1, 1921
Mr. Frank O. Elliott, one of Catawba county’s best known citizens, died at his home in Catawba Springs at 2 o’clock this morning following an illness of several days with pneumonia. Very few people knew that he was ill. He was 63 years of age and was a son of the late Dr. and Mrs. E.O. Elliott, who, as owners of the springs property, conducted a resort there many years ago that enjoyed more than a statewide reputation.
Mr. Elliott, who lived with his sister, Miss Emma Elliott, was never married.
It was his ambition to see the springs property, embracing many acres and wholesome water, developed as a resort and he often said that he would dispose of his interest to any organization which would make the most of the opportunities.
Many North Carolina people will recall their visits to this place more than a quarter of a century ago, when summer resorts were few and far between and when Catawba Springs was a household word in many North Carolina homes.
Mr. Elliott engaged in farming, but most of his time was devoted to looking after the property, which was owned by members of the family. He was a splendid citizen and will be greatly missed.
Mr. Elliott was born in Mecklenburg county on March 13, 1860, but spent the greater part of his life in Catawba county. He was a member of the First Presbyterian church of Hickory, from which the funeral will be held this afternoon at 4 o’clock by his pastor, Dr. E.M. Craig. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery. Surviving him are Miss Emma Elliott with whom he lived, and mrs. W.E. Alexander of Statesville.
