J.W. Cheney Killed in Fistfight, Jan. 7, 1921
J.W. Cheney, a Naval recruit form Clinton, was killed at Norfolk Friday by J.E. McKean, a navy bugler. The two disagreed and a fist fight resulted in the death of Cheney. (From the front page of The Independent, Elizabeth City, N.C., Jan. 7, 1921)
