Mr. O. Adolphus Sigmon, one of Hickory’s best citizens, died at 10 o’clock last night at the home of his son, Mr. H. Eugene Sigmon, near Conover, after an illness of several weeks at the age of 71 years. He was born September 24, 1849, near Bakers Mountain, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus Sigmon. He was a devoted member of Holy Trinity Lutheran church, form which the funeral will be conducted this afternoon by Rev. C.R.W. Kegley, pastor. Interment will be in Oakwood cemetery.
For more than 35 years Mr. Sigmon was a valued employe of the Piedmont Wagon & Manufacturing Company, and he probably had made more wagon beds than any other living man. He was expert, rapid and painstaking in his work, and he was truly a master in his line.
Mr. Sigmon had been in declining health for several months and shortly after the first of the year went to live with his son. He is survived by two sons, Messrs. H. Eugene Sigmon and H.H. Sigmon, the latter an officer at Newton.
