Venereal Clinic Treated 1,000 Cases in February, 1921

The number of cases handled in the venereal clinic of the city health department during February was the largest on record, Dr. W.A. McPhaul, city health officer said. Because of the increase the department has made arrangements to open the clinic all day on Mondays and Thursdays. Heretofore, the clinic has been open only in the afternoons. Under the new plan, however, treatment may ber received every afternoon in te week except Sunday and all during the day on Mondays and Thursdays.

More than 1,000 cases were handled during February, and it was a month of only 28 days, Dr. McPhaul noted. The highest previously had been slightly more than 900.

The clinic on Monday and Thursday mornings, from 9 to 12 o’clock, will be open to white woman only. Negro men and women and white men will be given treatment any afternoon in the week.

The number of cases of venereal disease among women is increasing, Dr. McPhaul said, hence the ecision to have two special periods in the week for them.
