A burning automobile near the plant of the International Harvester company on South Cedar street brought out the Fifth Street Fire company shortly after 2 o'clock Monday. The damage to the machine was slight, owing to the quick application of chemicals. the name of the owner was not learned. The Fifth street company was called out four times Sunday by alarms, two of which came in from Box 36, at Independence square. The first alarm caused by a pile of burning boxes in the lot behind the Matheson Hardware company on West Trade street. Someone thought smoke pouring out of a low chimney in the building meant that the building over the Hunter-House Cigar store meant that the building was afire and rang in Box 36 again Sunday afternoon. the company learned on arrival, however, that the fire was in a stove.
Sparks caught the shingled roof of the house at No. 8 Jackson Terrace early Sunday morning and brought the members of the central station out before they had completed their morning slumbers. Damage of between $300 and $400 was caused when the roof of House No. 1106 West Second street caught from sparks from a flue. Aside from this blaze only slight damage resulted from any of the fires.
