Governor Asked to Commute Death Sentence of T.J. Harris, Ridgeway Merchant, June 4, 1921

Governor Asked to Commute Harris

Asheville, June 4—Attorneys for T.J. Harris, Ridgecrest merchant under sentence of death for the murder of F.W. Monnish, Alabama churchman, announced Friday that petitions for executive clemency are in the hands of the governor. The appeal by Harris to the Supreme Court resulted in the decision sustaining the actin of the lower court and either an application for a rehearing of the case before the Supreme Court or an appeal to the Governor are the only courses left through which the life of the condemned man may be saved.
