The body of Mrs. J. M. Journey, who died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W.C. Petty, 15 North Poplar street, at noon Monday, was taken to her former home in Nashville, Tenn., Monday night for burial. Her husband and Mrs. Petty accompanied the body.
Mrs. Journey was the daughter of W.O. Britt and Mary Alice Britt. She was born December 12, 1861, at Britt’s landing on the Tennessee river. Her father was a planter of the old wealthy southern aristocaracy of that section.
Mrs. Journey was educated at Nazareth, a Catholic convent, but was a Methodist.
It is believed that the death of her only son, First Lieutenant James Britt Journey, who was killed in France August 10, 1918, was party responsible for her death. She was heart-broken at the news of his death and had grieved over it until her death.
She died on Memorial Day as the grave of her son was being decorated with flowers. She will be buried beside the grave of her son in Nashville.
Mrs. Journey is survived by her husband, her daughter, Mrs. Petty; one sister, Mrs. R.P. Pickard, and two brothers, George and Albert Britt, all of Nashville.
