Mrs. Waters, Mrs. Bowen Have Died, June 1921

Mrs. J.B. Waters Suddenly Stricken

Mrs. Evelyn Carolina Waters died at her home on East Main street last night at 11 o’clock from apoplexy, only about 20 minutes after being stricken. Mrs. Waters was born at Dardens September 26th, 1846, and married Mr. James B. Waters June 20th, 1865. Her married life lasted 56 years, lacking four days.

She leaves her husband, a civil War veteran, who will be 81 years old October 1st, and six children, Mrs. Lizzie Woodhouse, Mrs. L.C. Roberson, Miss Mattie Waters, William H. Waters and Clyde Waters, all of Williamston, and Mrs. Ida Mae Moore of Norfolk, Virginia. She also leaves four grandchildren. She lost seven children, all young, except one son, who lived to manhood.

Truly a good woman has gone. She gave a full life of service and never had enemies because she was a friend to all. She gave close attention to her home and performed the full measure of her duty as wife and mother.

At the age of 14 she was united with the Methodist church at Plymouth and has ever since worthily counted as one of the brightest jewels of the church, her life measuring up to the high standard of a Christian.

The funeral will be conducted at the home at four o’clock by Rev. L.C. Larkin, her pastor, and Rev. A.V. Joyner, pastor of the Baptist church.
