Salisbury, July 16—Petitions are being circulating asking the aldermen to call an election to vote on bond issues totaling $75,000, which the aldermen had advertised they would issue if such a petition were not presented. The money is to be used for water and sewer extensions. The petitions are opposed to the aldermen exercising this power without sanction of the voters.
A full house at the community building heard J.Q. Nolan, Imperial lecturer of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan, explain the principles of the order. There was liberal applause throughout Mr. Nolan’s address, which lasted about two hours.
Mrs. J.E. Abernethy and son, Wallace, have gone to Saranac Lake, N.Y., to see another son of Rev. And Mrs. Abernethy, Horace, who is seriously ill.
Officers just elected by the local Y.M.C.A. are A.S. Jones, president; R.L. Bernhardt, vice-president; E.D. McCall, recording secretary; J.W. Fletcher, treasurer; and E.M. Hoffman, executive secretary.
The local Kiwanis Club has endorsed the move for a general hospital for Salisbury and has appointed a committee to represent them in the matter.
