After 50 Years Service, Teacher Retires With Pension, Aug. 6, 1921

Taught 50 Years, Is Retired on Pension

Wilmington, Aug. 6—After half a century of service in the public schools of Wilmington, Miss Adelaide Meares has been retired on a pension. Miss M.E. Cook, who has served on the same school for 45 years, was retired at the same time.

Gradually Getting Human

A Wilmington school teacher who has been actively engaged in teaching there for 50 years has been retired on a pension. A new light is breaking in North Carolina. We are almost to the point of showing human appreciation toward the teachers in the public schools, and regarding them as at least as worthy of compensation and honor as those who follow the manual arts.
