Salisbury, August 6—In an automobile wreck at Quinn’s Mountain near here late yesterday evening, James Smith, aged 22, was almost instantly killed. Smith was a driver for Kirk’s Transfer and was bringing several negro passengers to town when the car left the road and ran into a small creek.
Annie Pemberton, negro woman passenger, was also killed, and another negro woman and a negro man were seriously injured.

Third Death Results in Wreck of Automobile
Salisbury, August 6—Annie Carter, negro woman, died today, hers being the third death on account of the automobile accident near Dunn’s Mountain Friday evening. Major Craig, negro man, is in critical condition and not expected to recover. The other two occupants of the car, James Smith, white driver, and Maggie Pemberton, negro woman, were killed almost instantly. Smith’s body has been taken to his former home at Gold Hill for burial.
