Miss Ophelia Henderson, the daughter of Rev. Z.I. Henderson, was bitten by a poisonous snake one night last week. She had been to church and was on her way back home when she came in contact with the snake. The serpent struck the young lady so hard and fastened its fangs in her flesh so deep that it was almost impossible to get loose from it. As it was dark, they could not tell what kind it was, for it soon disappeared in the weeds. She has been confined to her bed ever since, and is very low now, but there is hope for her recovery.

Mrs. Hubert Edens is on the sick list.

Miss Beulah Whitmire and Miss Della Gillespie returned last Thursday from Asheville, where they had been for six weeks in the State Normal School.

Miss Helen Jenkins returned last week to Tallulah Falls, Ga., to take up her school work again in the college.

Miss Delilia Morrison and little Viola Mull of Brevard were visitors to Rosman last Saturday and Sunday.

Mr. Curlee and his little son left Monday for Ruby, S.C., to spend a few days with his sick mother.

The Baptist Sunday School has so increased that we have now 181 enrolled with a large attendance every Sunday.

On the Way from Rosman to Oak Grove Church one night last week, the engine of Ike Holden’s car caught on fire, but by his quick thought he turned the switch key off and prevented the fire from reaching the gas tank, which had just been filled with gas, thereby saving his own life and four others. Conly Owen, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C.L. Owen, died last Monday morning at 9 o’clock at his father’s home here. Conley had been afflicted many years with rheumatism but it was only three years ago when this disease seized him with such a trip that it proved fatal. He was 27 years old last May and had been a follower of Christ about 10 years. He leaves a father, mother, two sisters and two brothers to mourn their loss. His body was laid to rest in the Whitmire Cemetery at Rosman. May God’s blessing rest upon the family.
