West Fourth Street, between Tryon and Church, will be included in Charlotte’s white way, according to plans now being worked out by Col. T.L. Kirkpatrick, president of the Chamber of Commerce. Colonel Kirkpatrick announced last night that the Southern Power company and the city government had promised their co-operation to this end. A number of poles suspending power wires will be removed, it was explained. The city will have charge of the work of developing this extension of the white way, so far as providing the lighting fixtures and current is concerned.
This development was determined upon because the Chamber of Commerce expects to remove its offices within a month to the Dowd building, which is now nearing construction. This building occupies about one-third of the block which will be included in the white way.
In the new quarters the Chamber of Commerce will have offices sufficient for its needs, and an assembly hall which will have a seating capacity of 600 persons.
