Concord Farmer Hid Illicit Still in Room Dug Under Pig Pen, Oct. 17, 1921

Had Underground Still in Operation

Concord, Oct. 17—A room dug in the ground under a pig pen was the method devised by Jesse Thomas, a farmer of this county, to evade prohibition.

Three local officers located the room containing an illicit still and liquor and beer, after searching every foot of ground on the Thomas farm. The room was about 8 by 8 feet and the entrance was made from the pig pen and the entrance was carefully covered with leaves and dirt. In addition to the still, the room contained a bed and several other articles of furniture. From the still a stove pipe ran next to a fence post on the outside.
