The cases against W.W. and G.C. Davis, white farmers of the county, living a short distance from the cit on the Pineville road, were not reached at the term of criminal court over which Judge Ray presided during the past week. The defendants were charged with having too much liquor on their premises. It was on their plantations that officers a few days ago found between 300 and 400 quarts of bottled-in-bond whiskey, part of it being in a car on the premises of W.W. Davis and the other consignment in another car on his brother’s lands. Both denied knowledge of the presence of the liquor in their cars and knowledge as to the identity of the machines.
The two defendants were released on bonds to appear for trial at the next terms of the court, their bonds being $1,000 each.
