Don't Race Motorcyle Cop, Especially in 1921 Kissel 'Gold Bug'

Doesn’t Pay to Race the Motorcycle Cop

Rufus N. Parson, driving a Chrysanthemum colored 60 H.P. Kissel Car, came down to Elizabeth City from his new home in Ashbury Park, N.J., this week to find that Elizabeth City has been putting on airs since he left here two years ago. For instance, Mr. Parsons didn’t know that we now have a motorcycle policeman. When he heard the bark and sputter of a motorcycle behind him on the Weeksville Road Wednesday, Mr. Parsons thought some one was challenging him to a race. He wasn’t going to let a motorcyle crawl by that big yaller Kissel. Rufus stepped on her hard and left the motorcycle miles behind. The cop caught him on the way back and Mr. Parsons paid a fine of $10 and costs in the Recorder’s Court Thursday morning.
