The undertakers firm of Z.A. Hovis & son has purchased the lot at 508 North Tryon street and will let a contract in a few days for the erection of a new funeral home of three stories, said to be the first exclusively funeral establishment ever built in the State from original architecture.
The cost to the firm of both lot and building will be in excess of $50,000. The lot cost $20,000 and it is calculated that $30,000 will be required I the erection of the building which will be of brick construction. The lot has a frontage of 50 feet on North Tryon and a depth of 198 feet. The present residence on the property will be moved to the rear of the property and will be converted into small apartments. The sale of the property was negotiated through Frank F. Jones.
The new home of the undertakers’ firm will be original in design and built exclusively for the services of the establishment. It will contain display rooms as well as embalming office and will be novel in its architectural designs, being built along such lines as will give it uniqueness and distinctiveness. The firm is under the management of Frank Hovis, who succeeded to the management of the business upon the death of his father, the late Z.A. HOvis, who was ne of the veterans in the undertaking line in Charlotte.
Frank Hovis became associated with his father in his young days and Has devoted his life to the study of this profession.
