Police Have Clue in Mack Wichard's Murder, Jan. 20, 1922

Policeman Anderson Has Clue to Wichard’s Murder

Officer Anderson of the Elizabeth City police believes that he knows who murdered Mack Wichard, a Negro painter of this city, on the night of Jan. 13, and that he will establish the evidence to bring the murderer to justice. Mack Wichard, 55 years old, was found near the Suffolk & Carolina R.R. tracks near Elizabeth City on Thursday afternoon of last week, his head crushed in, evidently a victim of foul play. Police Officer Anderson is sure that Wichard was not murdered at the spot where his body was found, but that he was killed in the city and his body taken to the suburbs that night. The police have learned a lot about Wichrd’s life and have found among other things that he had frequent trouble with another Negro coming between him and his wife.
