Capt. Edgar Chadwick, 54 years of age, died in the U.S. Marine Hospital at Buffalo, N.Y., at 11:25 p.m. Wednesday night, April 5, following an illness of several weeks. Capt. Chadwick was Superintendent of the Seventh District U.S. Coast Guard, with an office at Elizabeth City from the summer of 1915 to September 1920 when he was transferred to the Tenth District of the Coast Guard, with offices at Buffalo.
Edgar Chadwick was born at Manteo, Roanoke Island, Nov. 4, 1868. He entered the Coast Guard when a young man and worked himself up in the service, rising first to Keeper of Little Island station, thence to Virginia Beach, thence to the superintendency of the Eight District, which latter post he filled until transferred to Elizabeth City to succeed the late P.H. Morgan in 1918.
Capt. Chadwick was one of the most lovable men in the Coast Guard service and news of his death came as a shock to Elizabeth City people. He is survived by a wife and four children. Arrangements for the funeral and interment had not been discussed when this newspaper when to press.
