Editor Recommends Closing Kinston Shops at 1 O'clock Every Friday During the Summer, July 12, 1922

Congratulations to Goldsboro on its adoption of a weekly half holiday in its business district. Most of the firms there began Thursday afternoon last to observe a half holiday. That is the custom in practically all of the larger cities. It’s one that The Free Press has frequently urged advisability of for Kinston. The Merchants’ Association here could render a splendid service to the hundreds of sales people by putting into effect the weekly half holiday during the heated months. Kinston people would unquestionably co-operate, as patrons have done wherever the half holiday has been put into effect by progressive modern managers.
