Cal Patrick Hutchens in Jail After Striking Father in Head with Rock, Aug. 8, 1922

Yadkin Man Hits Father With Rock

Yadkinville, Aug. 8—Cal Patrick Hutchens is in jail and his aged father, John Patrick Hutchens, is lingering between life and death with a hole cut across the top of his head as a result of a fight between father and son last Sunday afternoon.

Sunday afternoon the son became enraged at his father in some manner and they met on the side of the road and began the row. Young Hutchens was in the road and his father on a high bank near by and they were both throwing rocks at each other. It is stated that when the elder Hutchens reached to pick up more rocks, Cal hit him on the top of the head, inflicting wounds from which he may not recover, although Dr. Couch says he is doing very well. Sheriff Moxley went over and arrested Cal and put him in jail.

This is the second time young Hutchens has been in trouble for fighting his father, he being let off on a conditional judgment before and fined.
